Job description

About Moana New Zealand

Moana New Zealand is the largest Māori-owned kaimoana and kai ora company in New Zealand, dedicated to guarding some of the world's most pristine and sustainably managed fisheries. We uphold a strong commitment to our community while respecting traditional seafood practices. Our Inshore division specializes in finfish harvested from New Zealand's pure waters, maintaining premium quality from catch through to global delivery. Our operations have been ongoing for over three decades, with steadfast compliance to leading food safety standards and a strong connection with our fishermen and staff.

Position Overview

We seek a full-time Quality Controller based at the Kaimoana Hub in Porirua to oversee the finfish processing operations. Reporting to the Production Manager and QA, Compliance & Health & Safety Lead, this critical role ensures our seafood products maintain top-tier quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily pre-operational and compliance inspections to verify production readiness.
  • Perform quality assessments consistent with company and external product criteria.
  • Uphold food safety standards aligned with the factory's Risk Management Plan (RMP).
  • Carry out scheduled product and environmental sampling tests.
  • Implement temperature monitoring protocols to guarantee food safety compliance.
  • Assess raw materials, in-process items, and final products to ensure quality benchmarks are met.
  • Assist in enforcing and enhancing quality control measures and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with production teams and management to resolve quality concerns through corrective action.
  • Keep informed on regulatory developments and industry standards to sustain compliance.

Candidate Profile

This role is ideal for a dependable and diligent professional keen to expand their expertise in fisheries quality control and compliance. Candidates should possess prior experience in factory, supply chain or logistics environments, preferably within FMCG, fresh foods, fisheries, or manufacturing sectors. Strong knowledge of health, safety, food safety, and quality assurance is essential. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, multitasking capabilities, and a process-oriented mindset are required. While a HACCP qualification is a plus, it is not compulsory.

As a collaborative and trustworthy individual, you will excel at fostering relationships and earning credibility at all organizational levels.
