Job description

About Moana New Zealand

Moana New Zealand stands as the largest Māori-owned company specializing in kaimoana (seafood) and kai ora, proudly managing some of the world's most pristine and sustainably governed fisheries. With over 30 years of operation, our inshore division focuses on finfish harvested from New Zealand’s pristine waters, maintaining top-tier food safety and strong relationships with independent fishermen and staff throughout our operations.

Role Overview

We are seeking a full-time Quality Controller in Porirua to support our finfish factory operations at the Kaimoana Hub. This essential role reports to the Production Manager and contributes to ensuring our seafood products meet rigorous quality and safety benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily pre-operational and compliance inspections to confirm readiness for production start times.
  • Perform quality assessments aligned with internal product standards and relevant third-party criteria.
  • Uphold food safety through adherence to the factory’s Risk Management Plan.
  • Execute product and environmental testing as outlined by the factory’s sampling plan.
  • Administer temperature monitoring programs to verify food safety compliance.
  • Evaluate raw materials, intermediate outputs, and finished goods to confirm specifications are met.
  • Assist with the implementation and upkeep of quality control protocols and best practices.
  • Collaborate with production and leadership teams to resolve quality concerns and apply corrective measures.
  • Keep abreast of changing industry regulations and standards ensuring ongoing compliance.

Candidate Profile

This opportunity is ideal for a dependable, detail-oriented professional with prior factory, supply chain, or logistics experience, especially within FMCG, fresh foods, fisheries, or manufacturing sectors. A solid understanding of health, safety, quality assurance, and food safety principles is expected. While HACCP certification is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite.

The successful candidate will be a committed team player, process-focused, and eager to develop skills in a dynamic industry. Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities, alongside an ability to build credible relationships at all levels, are valued.
