Job Overview

Become an integral part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, contributing to impactful scientific advancements on a global level. In this role as a Field Service Engineer III, you will provide expert installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting for advanced analytical and microscopy devices. You will ensure high system uptime and reliability at various customer locations including research facilities, universities, and industrial sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and customer-oriented service representing Thermo Fisher Scientific internally and externally.
  • Execute installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and validation of complex analytical instrumentation at client sites.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, calibrations, and performance tests according to company protocols and client specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve sophisticated hardware, software, vacuum, and system challenges using advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Deliver prompt onsite and remote technical assistance while prioritizing service demands to meet agreed service level agreements.
  • Train users on correct instrument operation, routine upkeep, and best practices to optimize functionality.
  • Accurately document service activities including maintenance records, installation logs, and regulatory compliance reports.
  • Build and sustain strong customer relations through understanding their technical needs and providing expert consultations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Technical Support, Applications, and Sales to resolve complex issues and support company goals.
  • Manage inventory of service tools, testing equipment, spare parts, and company assets to maintain preparedness and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for service contract renewals, upgrades, and cross-selling, communicating client needs to commercial teams.
  • Adhere strictly to corporate policies, quality management systems, safety regulations, and industry standards during all field service tasks.
  • Continuously enhance technical knowledge through training, knowledge sharing, and participation in improvement initiatives.
  • Travel regularly within assigned regions to perform installations, maintenance, emergency repairs, and other field tasks.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess an advanced degree with at least 3 years experience or a bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years in installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and calibrating complex analytical instruments.
  • Preferred educational backgrounds include Electronics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or related technical fields.
  • Commitment to ongoing technical certifications and trainings.
  • Proven expertise with ultra-high vacuum technology, high voltage electronics, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for both hardware and software related challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to foster customer relationships.
  • Proficient in English language; multilingual abilities are an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, circuit diagrams, and engineering blueprints.
  • Familiarity with Windows OS, networking, and common business applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with willingness and ability to travel 25-50% of the time.
  • Physical capability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs and work in lab settings requiring personal protective equipment.
  • Experience mentoring or training colleagues preferred.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously while maintaining teamwork.
  • Responsive to urgent customer inquiries and able to work in cleanroom or controlled environments as needed.

Work Conditions and Schedule

  • Standard working hours Monday to Friday.
  • Work environments include laboratories requiring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) safety standards.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gowns, gloves, lab coats, and ear plugs as necessary.
