Job description
Overview
This role is based at Pilgrim's Ellijay Feed Mill, tasked with maintaining cleanliness and supporting production functions to uphold operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure cleanliness inside and outside of the Feed Mill by sweeping, mopping, washing, and dusting as required.
- Maintain grounds by mowing, using weed eaters, and removing trash and spilled feed.
- Dispose of waste materials such as trash and feed into designated outdoor containers or landfill trailers.
- Dust beams, equipment, and railings periodically, and paint railings, beams, and walls as instructed.
- Receive bagged ingredients using a forklift, organize them neatly in the warehouse for inventory and FIFO usage, and secure broken bags to prevent contamination.
- Assist maintenance staff with various tasks as directed by supervisors.
- Notify supervisors about any issues with equipment or processes promptly.
- Clean beams and equipment located at high elevations using safety harnesses if required.
- Comply with safety regulations and procedures at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Physically capable of standing and walking throughout the workday.
- Ability to hold arms extended forward for periods, sometimes exceeding 15 inches.
- Experience with repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
- Strong communication skills.
- Capable of lifting weights up to 70 pounds.
- Proficient in reading and writing English.
- Flexible to work varied schedules.
- Comfortable climbing ladders, stairs, and working at heights.
- No formal education required.
Training & Certifications
- Completion of safety orientation covering hot work permit, lockout/tag-out, emergency evacuation, housekeeping, safety rules, work rules, hazard communication with chemical awareness, confined space entry, and forklift operation.
- Forklift operator license is required.
Physical and Work Environment
- The role entails working in wet, humid, and noisy conditions with exposure to moving mechanical parts, occasional extreme cold, and tasks performed at elevated heights.
- Protective gear includes dust masks, body harnesses, safety glasses, ear plugs, head protection, and safety boots with slip-resistant soles and steel toes.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to safety regulations and procedures.
- Properly operate machinery such as forklifts, tractors, and mowers with safety protocols.
- Practice lockout/tag-out procedures before equipment repairs.
- Use all necessary personal protective equipment at designated times.
- Dispose of waste materials safely and appropriately.
