About the Role

The Farm Manager will be in charge of managing all day-to-day activities on the farm, ensuring productivity, effective use of resources, staff oversight, equipment maintenance, and the farm's financial health. This role prioritizes efficient cultivation, livestock handling, resource management, safety adherence, sustainability, and compliance with agricultural standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily farm functions and production procedures.
  • Create seasonal plans for crops, livestock, horticulture, or mixed farming operations.
  • Oversee planting, cultivation, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, storage, and post-harvest processes.
  • Manage livestock care including feeding, breeding, health monitoring, housing, and production activities.
  • Track crop health, soil conditions, pest and disease activity, weather, and overall farm performance.
  • Implement integrated pest management, crop protection, soil conservation, and disease prevention schemes.
  • Supervise farm staff including employees, contractors, and seasonal workers; assign roles, schedule work, provide training, and assess performance.
  • Manage agricultural machinery and equipment including tractors, irrigation systems, tools, vehicles, and infrastructure; coordinate maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversee farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, feed, pesticides, veterinary items, fuel, and packaging; monitor inventory, purchasing, and costs.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, expenses, production costs, revenue projections, and financial documentation.
  • Monitor yields, labor efficiency, resource use, waste, and profitability metrics.
  • Coordinate sales, distribution, storage, and transport of farm products.
  • Build and maintain relationships with buyers, suppliers, contractors, processors, agricultural organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain production, inventory, financial, equipment, and compliance records.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, food safety, animal welfare, and chemical handling regulations.
  • Implement safety protocols and conduct risk assessments on the farm.
  • Manage water resources, soil conservation, waste management, and sustainability programs.
  • Adopt and utilize precision agriculture technologies including GPS, drones, sensors, farm management software, automation, and data analytics.
  • Use data and technology to enhance crop yields, livestock productivity, resource efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor market trends, weather forecasts, commodity prices, and factors influencing farm operations.
  • Prepare operational reports, production forecasts, financial updates, and management recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot operational challenges including equipment failures, production bottlenecks, staffing issues, and supply disruptions.
  • Support expansion projects, infrastructure upgrades, new production methods, and technology adoption.
  • Develop emergency and contingency plans for extreme weather, disease outbreaks, equipment failure, and supply interruptions.
  • Continually improve farm productivity, product quality, sustainability practices, cost efficiency, workforce performance, and overall operational success.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Management, Horticulture, Animal Science, Farm Management, or related disciplines.
  • Deep knowledge of agricultural production, crop and livestock management, irrigation, soil health, and general farm operations.
  • Familiarity with agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, fertilizers, crop protection techniques, and farm infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership capabilities along with effective staff management and communication skills.
  • Proficient in agricultural planning, budgeting, inventory control, and cost management.
  • Ability to interpret production data, analyze yields, costs, efficiency, resource use, and financial results.
  • Understanding of agricultural health and safety, environmental standards, food safety protocols, and sustainability principles.
  • Experience or interest in precision agriculture tools such as GPS systems, drones, IoT sensors, farm software, automation, and analytics is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of sustainable farming techniques including water conservation, soil care, waste minimization, and resource-efficient practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, decisive operational management, and ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders including regulatory bodies.
  • Excellent record-keeping and comprehensive reporting abilities.
  • Awareness of agricultural markets, commodity price fluctuations, supply chains, and farm-to-market processes is beneficial.
  • Ability to perform reliably under varying weather, production, and operational conditions.
  • High levels of responsibility, professionalism, adaptability, integrity, and commitment to safe and sustainable farming operations.
