Founded in 1976 through a merger of ten independent hauliers, DSV has grown into the world's third largest provider of global transport and logistics solutions. Operating in over 80 countries, DSV offers comprehensive supply chain services including transportation, storage, packaging, processing, and customs clearance. The company combines global reach with a local presence dedicated to efficient goods supply worldwide.

Position Overview

The Facility Specialist, also known as Facility Assistant or Janitor with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) responsibilities, works under general supervision to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of buildings and facilities. This role involves semi-skilled tasks and may assist with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC duties, or operate light-to-medium power tools. Work independence varies with adherence to policies and procedures, and supervision level fluctuates based on task complexity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of offices, cubicles, conference rooms, restrooms, and other office areas.
  • Prepare conference rooms with coffee, beverages, and food as needed.
  • Maintain neatness in storage zones and cleanliness of exterior grounds, such as bay areas and lobby entrances.
  • Perform daily floor maintenance to keep areas free of dirt, debris, and hazards, and post warning signs as necessary.
  • Empty trash containers in warehouse and office spaces daily or as required.
  • Clean windows weekly or as needed.
  • Refill water dispensers in warehouse and office sections daily or on demand.
  • Inspect warehouse and office lighting weekly, reporting outages to supervisors.
  • Operate sweepers and lifts safely in line with OSHA guidelines, documenting preventive maintenance and wearing necessary personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain equipment and materials orderly, conduct pre-operation checks and minor maintenance, operate equipment efficiently, and report any defects or damage.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment or obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of forklift training is mandatory.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills to interact with customers and vendors.
  • Capability to read and understand written guidelines and instructions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, and handle equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of materials and operating power tools.

Preferred Experience

  • At least six months in a similar role.
  • Current or former certification in Material Handling Equipment operation.

Physical Demands and Environment

The role requires frequent bending, walking, standing, climbing, crawling, and handling objects commonly weighing between 21 to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 55 pounds. Tasks often necessitate reaching above shoulder level, squatting or kneeling, and pushing/pulling weights up to 100 pounds.

Work environment conditions can include exposure to varying temperatures (cold, warm, hot, humid) and moderate dust or airborne particles. Exposure to fumes or hazardous chemicals is rare. Noise levels typically range from low to moderate.

DSV offers equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other protected characteristics.
