Role Overview

The Estimator will prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates focused on electrical and Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (ICA) elements within the process and water sectors. This role involves collaboration with various departments including design, commercial, and project management to ensure project costs are forecasted accurately and align with delivery timelines and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in site visits to assess electrical and ICA aspects, gaining insight into current treatment processes, control philosophies, and site limitations.
• Develop and present the scope of work, covering proposed technical solutions, procurement packages, and constructability considerations and risks to bid and delivery teams.
• Prepare comprehensive electrical and ICA cost estimates in collaboration with other estimating disciplines, including:
• Creating single line diagrams and using Amtech/Trimble software for analysis.
• Preparing load, cable, instrumentation, IO schedules, and cable containment methods.
• Defining work and supply packages and evaluating procurement quotes.
• Pricing estimates using RIB Candy estimating software.
• Identifying and logging project risks in a risk register.
• Contribute to tender programming considering constructability, sequencing, task durations, testing, commissioning, and process compliance during construction.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to fully understand scopes, assumptions, and clarifications.
• Support bid preparation by providing clear pricing details, cost explanations, and inputs to technical solution documentation.
• Identify, quantify, and communicate project cost risks and opportunities, assist with margin analysis and bid strategy, and maintain clear records of estimates and historic data.
• Coordinate with estimating managers, senior estimators, procurement, and supply chains to ensure estimate alignment with strategy and accurate pricing.
• Support project teams in pre-construction and early delivery by providing cost insights.
• Maintain and update cost databases, benchmarks, and templates; drive improvements in estimating processes; and capture lessons learned from completed projects to enhance future estimates.

Qualifications and Skills

• HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as an Estimator within engineering, construction, or infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of wastewater and/or drinking water process treatment technologies and operations.
• Strong numerical and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Professional memberships such as MIET, IET, or RICS are advantageous.
• Experience with framework contracts and multi-site projects is desirable.
• Knowledge of NEC or similar contract standards is beneficial.
• Familiarity with estimating software such as Candy, Conquest, or Causeway preferred.
