Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Wireperson for our workshop near Totton, Southampton. This position involves precise assembly and wiring of control panels, MCCs, and automation systems according to electrical drawings, specifications, and standards, ensuring all assemblies comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements before inspection and testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Wire control panels, MCCs, and automation systems based on approved schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Install and terminate power, control, and instrumentation cables accurately.
• Assemble and wire MCCs and control panels ensuring adherence to design and compliance standards.
• Interpret electrical schematics, BOMs, and arrangement drawings with precision.
• Mark up drawings reflecting as-built modifications.
• Adhere to work instructions and build documentation rigorously.
• Collaborate with team members including testers and supervisors to achieve production goals.
• Contribute to advancements in wiring methods, efficiency, and layout.
• Conduct self and peer checks prior to formal testing, reporting defects or discrepancies promptly.
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures per company policies and UK legislation.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, properly use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Interdepartmental and External Collaboration

• Work closely with Workshop Supervisor, Production Manager, Test Engineer, Design & Engineering Teams, Automation Team, Stores/Logistics, and Quality Team.
• Liaise with clients, inspectors, and suppliers as necessary.

Candidate Profile

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent certification in Electrical Installation, Panel Wiring, or Electrical Engineering.
• Competent in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
• Knowledgeable of electrical safety best practices and workshop health and safety standards.
• Familiarity with quality-controlled manufacturing environments.
• Proven experience wiring control panels, MCCs, or similar electrical assemblies including terminating various cables.
• Experienced in working from schematics, wiring schedules, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Capable of maintaining high standards in quality and safety within workshop settings.
• Must possess legal authorization to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not offered.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification.
• Understanding or training in BS EN 61439-2:2021 standards.
• Industry or manufacturer training on MCCs, switchgear, and automation systems.
• First Aid or IOSH Working Safely qualifications.
• Experience with PLC I/O wiring, automation panels, instrumentation, and supporting testing and fault rectification.
• Background in custom-built, client-specific panel fabrication.
