Role Overview

Cognisant is collaborating with a reputable housebuilding company seeking to recruit an Estimator for its West Midlands branch. This role will support commercial and land departments across newly launched and ongoing residential projects by delivering precise construction cost data from early site evaluation stages through to pre-construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Create comprehensive build cost estimates for new residential developments.
• Analyze architectural drawings, detailed specifications, and technical data.
• Develop cost plans facilitating land appraisals and viability studies.
• Compare and benchmark construction costs across present and prospective developments.
• Collaborate closely with Land, Commercial, Technical, and Construction teams.
• Identify potential cost risks and opportunities early in the project lifecycle.
• Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to acquire up-to-date market pricing.
• Assist in value engineering and evolving design processes.
• Maintain accurate cost databases and historical benchmarking records.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have experience in residential development or housebuilding, preferably as an Estimator, Cost Planner, or Quantity Surveyor with significant pre-development involvement. A solid understanding of residential construction costs and familiarity with technical documentation, cost plans, and development appraisals is essential. The position is suitable for current Estimators or experienced Quantity Surveyors aiming to specialize in pre-construction and early-stage project involvement.
