Job description
Role Overview
Our client, a specialist in design and build construction, is searching for a seasoned Estimator to enhance their growing construction team based in Sheffield with occasional travel to nearby sites. This full-time position involves preparing precise tenders and cost plans, supporting successful project delivery for refurbishment and new commercial builds across South Yorkshire and surrounding regions. The role offers a competitive salary up to £55,000 along with vehicle allowance and company benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze tender packages, including drawings, specifications, and project specifics.
- Manage tenders of different scales from receipt through detailed bills of quantities.
- Develop consistent, well-structured pricing frameworks and elaborate cost breakdowns.
- Meet subcontractors onsite to evaluate labor, equipment, and material costs while negotiating for competitive bids.
- Attend weekly site meetings and conduct site visits as necessary.
- Collaborate with project management, site personnel, design teams, and procurement to ensure coordinated tender submissions.
- Maintain accuracy and close attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Operate primarily from the office within a collaborative, supportive team environment.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting tender documents, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Background in refurbishment and new commercial construction projects.
- Experience with NHS or hospital refurbishment projects is a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods and on-site requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Causeway software is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Possession of a full UK driving license.
- Relevant hands-on experience in estimating or a related construction role.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills to foster positive supplier relationships.
