Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Estimating Manager to lead and grow the Queensland estimating team for a nationally recognized commercial fitout and refurbishment construction company. This role involves both leadership and active involvement in competitive tender submissions for major projects.

Company Overview

Our client is an award-winning national builder established over 30 years ago, specializing in building, fitouts, and refurbishments. With offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, they combine national resources and financial stability with strong local client relationships. Their projects span commercial fitout, health, education, government, and energy infrastructure sectors, handling complex assignments ranging from $1 million to over $30 million, often in active operational sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate as a key member of the Queensland Leadership Team alongside the QLD General Manager to define bidding strategies, pipeline development, and team goals.
  • Lead and mentor the estimating team locally, implementing best practices in estimating methods, value engineering, and supplier management.
  • Take a hands-on approach by managing and preparing complex tender submissions across Design & Construct, Construct Only, and Negotiated contract frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain strong subcontractor and supplier relationships within Southeast Queensland to secure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Engage directly with clients during tender stages, present innovative design/build proposals, and professionally represent the company to key developers and consultants.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Project Managers to ensure cost controls and smooth transition from tender to project execution phases.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 8 years experience in estimating within the Australian commercial construction, fitout, and refurbishment sector, including leadership or managerial roles.
  • Strong proficiency in first-principles estimating, detailed cost planning, trade package breakdowns, and interpreting complex contract documents.
  • Good commercial insight into Queensland market conditions, subcontractor capabilities, and procurement strategies.
  • A leadership style that encourages collaboration, is approachable, and balances hands-on estimating work with team development.
  • An extensive network of subcontractors in Southeast Queensland and hands-on experience with industry estimating software such as CostX or Buildsoft.

Benefits

  • Critical leadership position with direct reporting to General Manager and Directors, providing significant influence on company decisions.
  • Backed by a reputable national builder with resources and support across major Australian cities.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of projects in different sectors including commercial offices, healthcare, government, and education.
  • A supportive and innovative work environment focused on team culture and long-term career progression.
  • Competitive remuneration package including a base salary and superannuation aligned to your level of experience and leadership contribution.
