Job description

Overview

The AWS Infrastructure Services team is responsible for building and operating the global infrastructure that powers AWS Cloud services. This includes managing data centres and critical equipment such as power, cooling, networking, and server hardware to ensure continuous access to AWS resources globally. Joining as an Engineering Operations Technician based in Auckland, New Zealand, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team maintaining electrical lineups, diesel generators, HVAC, and fire suppression systems critical to data centre functionality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee site operations including managing colocation vendors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with AWS standards, procedures, and local laws.
  • Monitor and review both routine and corrective maintenance on critical systems like switch gear, generators, UPS units, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building monitoring.
  • Establish and analyze performance benchmarks related to critical infrastructure and provide detailed reporting.
  • Lead projects aimed at enhancing facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.

Additional Role Requirements

  • Physically capable of performing tasks involving bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, and safely ascending/descending ladders, stairs, and gangways.
  • Participate in a rostered 24x7 on-call support schedule, adaptable based on business needs.
  • Proficient in IT with experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle due to site location requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of relevant data centre or critical environment experience.
  • Minimum 5 years proficient use of Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Experience managing vendors effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of construction or project management experience.
  • Electrical or Mechanical Journeyman License.
  • Valid operating engineering license (e.g., DC II, DC III, or equivalent).
