Role and Impact
As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end roadmap and strategic direction of your team, influencing prioritization and ensuring delivery of robust, high-quality software. You will not only manage project execution but also provide strong technical leadership in system design discussions, making architectural decisions, and shaping the evolution of your team's technical foundation. Your role is pivotal in enhancing both delivery speed and technical excellence, including contributions ranging from system architecture to platform design and build-versus-buy considerations, while promoting AI-native workflows.
About the Team
You will lead a coordinated platform or product-focused engineering team that prioritizes transparency, trust, and diverse viewpoints. Working closely with Product and Design partners, you will co-own domain strategy, manage dependencies proactively, and foster an environment where engineers can thrive and excel.
Initial Focus Areas
- Promoting AI Engineering by integrating AI capabilities throughout the software development lifecycle to enhance efficiency.
- Enhancing engineering throughput through solid architecture, high code quality, and decoupling from legacy systems.
- Improving Developer Experience by reducing complexity, minimizing toil, and stabilizing development environments.
- Expanding system health and monitoring to make product status and technical debt transparent and manageable.
Work Location and Model
This position is based in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia, or Auckland or Wellington, New Zealand, following a hybrid work model. The role balances remote flexibility with in-person collaboration during designated office boost days.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated success in owning and driving software roadmaps within agile settings, effectively managing complex interdependencies and strategic prioritization.
- Strong background in software architecture and system design, capable of leading technical trade-offs and guiding modernization initiatives.
- Committed to coaching, mentoring, and supporting engineer career growth.
- A leadership style that empowers teams through quick, decentralized decision-making and ownership.
- Skilled at influencing cross-functional partners in Product and Design to shape and execute combined strategic goals.
- Proactive mindset with a bias for action focused on business outcome impact.
