Engineering Manager, Display Ads Formats

Role Overview

This position involves leading engineering teams focused on Display Ads within Google Ads. The role includes managing software engineers, overseeing technical projects, and collaborating across teams globally. The manager will handle a broad tech stack ranging from back-end languages like Java, Python, Go, and C++ to front-end technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS. The objective is to develop end-to-end solutions that help advertisers meet and exceed performance goals while supporting the open and free internet.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor, coach, and lead talented engineering professionals to foster their development.
• Work closely with Product Managers, UX designers, and engineering managers to convert broad product goals into clear engineering deliverables and ensure successful execution.
• Engage directly with customers to understand their challenges, define problems, craft innovative solutions and guide the engineering implementation.
• Maintain a focused portfolio of projects that aligns with team strengths and business priorities.
• Manage current products to maximize business value, handle customer issues efficiently, drive ongoing improvements and evolve the system for future success.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 8 years of experience in software development, including 3 years in a technical leadership role.
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing or leading engineering teams.
• Proficiency in full stack development with experience in back-end languages such as Java, Python, Go, or C++, plus front-end technologies like JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven track record in developing and shipping production software features.
• Experience in two or more of the following areas: web application development, Unix/Linux systems, mobile app development, distributed and parallel computing systems, networking, large software system development or security software.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on joint designs and platforms.
• Experience partnering with product managers to convert goals into actionable plans and driving project execution across teams using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
