Responsibilities span from initial concept through to product lifecycle management release, ensuring integration and quality standards are consistently met.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptual design, analysis, and finalization of chassis fuel system parts including tanks, piping, and mounting for all fuels.
- Conduct packaging and layout feasibility studies for fuel systems.
- Compile safety and handling documentation relevant to alternative fuel systems.
- Collaborate with structural analysis teams providing input for Finite Element Analysis and adjust designs accordingly.
- Achieve project objectives related to quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain thorough documentation including design proposals, DFMEA, calculations, and DVP reports.
- Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to fulfill manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability requirements.
- Develop and assess solutions addressing design challenges considering cost and complexity implications.
- Ensure CAD models of parts and assemblies meet quality standards.
- Manage Bill of Materials and specification releases within PLM systems.
- Prepare detailed reports and deliver engineering presentations for review sessions.
- Apply rigorous 8D problem-solving and QC tools to resolve technical issues including field failure root cause analyses.
- Identify key quality parameters and enforce their control through drawings and documentation.
- Analyze competitor designs and produce benchmarking reports.
Required Skills
- Expertise in chassis fuel system design encompassing fuel tanks, piping layouts, and mounting frameworks.
- Proficiency with CATIA V5 software: solid, surface, sheet metal modeling, and assembly creation.
- Experience with vehicle integration tasks including DMU, packaging studies, and interference analysis.
- Understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and tolerance stack-up assessments.
- Knowledge of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Verification Plans (DVP).
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with alternate fuel systems such as CNG, LNG, and hydrogen including their safety protocols and handling documentation requirements.
- Ability to provide inputs for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and iteratively improve design based on structural analysis feedback.
- Awareness of automotive quality standards like IATF 16949.
- Competence in the 8D problem-solving methodology and conducting root cause analyses for field failures.
- Experience in conducting competitor benchmarking studies.
