Opportunity Overview

Our Ottawa team is expanding, seeking a dedicated and collaborative Electrical Estimator to develop precise estimates for electrical construction assignments. The role also supports project operations with estimating, progress reporting, and managing project changes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain productive relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and contractors.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, and equipment from contract bids, quotations, blueprints, and specifications.
• Interpret project documents to ascertain scope and requirements.
• Include overheads such as insurance, taxes, and contingencies in estimations.
• Identify and mitigate potential cost risks.
• Work collaboratively with project managers and engineers to ensure estimates align with project objectives.
• Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects for tender processes.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits for data collection, tender review, and hand-off.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, labor pricing, and material cost fluctuations.
• Recommend enhancements to estimating methodologies and tools.
• Assess completed projects to improve future estimation accuracy.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Degree or diploma in engineering, estimating, project management, or construction engineering technology. Experience in electrical trade can be considered equivalent.
• 1 to 3 years’ experience estimating electrical construction projects; additional experience is a plus.

Skills and Other Requirements

• Knowledge of construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
• Competence in cost estimating and electrical industry practices.
• Blueprint reading proficiency.
• Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook), Accubid, and Bluebeam is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000 annually, determined by candidate qualifications including education and experience. Compensation is part of a total rewards package that may include group insurance, pension plans, bonuses, career development opportunities, and various HR programs.
