Electrical Estimator - Black & McDonald

About the Role

Black & McDonald is recruiting an experienced Electrical Estimator to strengthen their Atlantic Region team. This role presents a great chance for professionals in electrical construction who enjoy working on a variety of substantial projects and collaborating closely with field personnel, operational teams, clients, and industry associates.

The successful candidate will contribute to projects in commercial, government, industrial, and institutional sectors by ensuring precise estimates, supporting pre-construction planning, and facilitating successful project fulfillment.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed electrical estimates, budgets, and implement value-engineering strategies for projects from early design stages through to final construction documentation.
• Analyze tender packages including drawings, specifications, and addenda to define project scope, assess risks, and gather necessary clarifications.
• Formulate comprehensive cost estimates covering labor, materials, and equipment; conduct pre-bid site evaluations when required.
• Collaborate closely with project owners, consultants, contractors, suppliers, field teams, and operations to support competitive and accurate bids.
• Engage in bid evaluations, highlight project risks and opportunities, and assist operational teams after contract award.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to lessons-learned sessions aimed at enhancing future estimating and project delivery processes.

Required Qualifications

• Certification in electrical trade, a degree in Electrical Engineering, or diploma/certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in electrical construction estimating.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong competency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to secure necessary security clearances.
• Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.

Preferred Experience

• Background in pre-construction and design-build estimating processes.
• Familiarity with Accubid, Trimble, or similar estimating software.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations specific to Nova Scotia.
