Role Overview
The Ottawa team is expanding, seeking a dedicated Electrical Estimator to join a driven, innovative group. The successful candidate will prepare cost estimates for electrical construction projects and support project operations by estimating, reporting progress, and managing project changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and contractors.
- Estimate costs for materials, labor, and equipment based on bids, drawings, and specifications.
- Analyze blueprints and project documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Include overhead, insurance, taxes, and contingencies in cost estimates.
- Identify potential financial risks and suggest risk mitigation strategies.
- Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure estimates align with project objectives.
- Coordinate pricing with suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders during tender processes.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to collect necessary data for tendering.
- Stay current with industry trends, labor costs, and material prices.
- Recommend enhancements to estimation procedures and tools.
- Review completed projects to improve estimation accuracy for future endeavors.

Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in engineering, estimating, project management, or construction engineering technology.
- Equivalent experience in the electrical trade may fulfill educational requirements.
- 1 to 3 years of experience estimating electrical construction projects; additional experience is advantageous.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
- Cost estimating expertise.
- Familiarity with electrical industry practices and techniques.
- Proficient in blueprint reading.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook), Accubid, and Bluebeam is favorable.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $75,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications including education and experience. The compensation package may also include group insurance, pension plans, discretionary bonuses, career development opportunities, and other human resources programs.
