About the Role

The Economics & Advisory Principal leads complex economic and strategic advisory projects for both government and private sector clients. Working within multidisciplinary teams, the role entails delivering trusted advice supporting investment, policy, and development decisions and ensuring outcomes are sustainable and commercially viable. Hatch’s approach combines strategic insight with practical execution, involving planners, engineers, economists, sustainability experts, and project managers to provide visionary, implementable solutions.

• Future of Fremantle: Transformation of a historic waterfront into a vibrant mixed-use economic gateway in Western Australia.
• Bradfield City Centre: Development of Australia's first new city in over a century, focused on innovation and advanced manufacturing near Western Sydney International Airport.
• The Wave (Stage 1 Brownfield Package): Delivery of significant transport infrastructure in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast region to connect communities and stimulate long-term economic development.

Responsibilities

• Lead economic, strategic, and advisory projects within infrastructure, energy, resources, and urban development domains.
• Offer strategic guidance to government agencies, investors, and private clients.
• Oversee economic analyses, business case development, demand forecasting, market research, and socio-economic assessments.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality deliverables within time and budget.
• Formulate investment strategies, recommendations, and actionable implementation plans.
• Develop and present detailed reports, business cases, and executive briefings to clients.
• Drive business growth by engaging clients, preparing proposals, and participating in strategic pursuits.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and maintain quality assurance standards.
• Represent Hatch through industry involvement, thought leadership, and fostering stakeholder relationships to enhance the company’s reputation.
• Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive culture while supporting projects across Australia and internationally as required.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a senior economics or advisory expert with a substantial track record of managing complex projects and delivering strategic counsel to executive stakeholders. They exhibit commercial insight, leadership abilities, and excel at building enduring client partnerships.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 15 years of experience in economics, infrastructure advisory, strategic consulting, public policy, urban planning, or related fields.
• A university degree in Economics, Public Policy, Urban Planning, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
• Demonstrated history of leading major advisory projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong skills in business development, proposal writing, and client engagement.
• Experience advising senior executives, corporate boards, and government decision-makers.
• Knowledgeable about infrastructure funding, financing structures, and delivery models.
• Advanced analytical proficiency, including economic modeling and cost-benefit evaluation.
• Excellent communication skills capable of simplifying complex concepts for varied audiences.
• Experience operating in government environments and stakeholder-focused settings.
• Willingness to undertake frequent domestic travel and occasional international trips.
