Job Overview

The State of Tennessee is hiring a full-time Driver's License Examiner located in Murfreesboro, TN within Driver License District 3North under the Department of Safety and Homeland Security. The role involves administering driver's license tests, processing applications, and ensuring applicants meet eligibility criteria.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clear explanations of state laws, licensing requirements, and Department policies to applicants and the public.
• Receive and verify fees and identification documents such as social security cards, proof of residence, and valid driver’s licenses.
• Manage cash registers, including counting cash at shift start and end, generating daily receipt reports, identifying discrepancies, and preparing bank deposits.
• Guide applicants through forms and testing procedures; administer vision, written, and road skill tests following Tennessee guidelines, and capture digital photographs for license records.
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections checking lights, brakes, signals, and confirm compliance with road safety rules during driving tests.
• Update licensing records, enter applicant information accurately into the License Information System for Tennessee (LIST), and verify data correctness with applicants.
• Handle complex tasks such as addressing customer questions, assisting with immigration-related cases, arranging accommodations for special needs applicants, audits, reporting, and supply management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
• Applicants must submit to a comprehensive background check including fingerprinting and clearance of disqualifying criminal offenses per Federal Regulations Title 49 CFR 1572.103.
• No convictions for permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses within specified federal guidelines.
• Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license or obtain one before appointment.
• Maintain a clean driving record for the past five years with no DUI, reckless driving, license suspensions related to moving violations, or more than four moving violations.
