Job Overview
The Drill Bit Repair Technician role involves performing both manual and machine-based grinding, blast cleaning, and thermal operations such as brazing, welding, and hardfacing. These functions are essential for repairing and assembling drill bits and downhole tools with a high level of quality. The technician reports to the Operations Manager or Supervisor and also handles the movement of bits as needed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply strictly with contractual commitments, including punctuality and attendance.
- Assemble components based on engineering blueprints and established procedures.
- Possess strong hands-on skills and knowledge in torch brazing and hardfacing techniques.
- Operate oxy-acetylene and propane equipment safely with all necessary pre-use inspections.
- Utilize handheld grinding apparatus effectively.
- Apply welding expertise, specifically TIG welding and gas torch for hardfacing and brazing tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections, reporting deviations and using standard measurement tools correctly.
- Manage workload independently by prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Maintain professionalism and prioritize excellent customer service at all times.
- Keep work areas and departments clean and orderly.
- Adhere fully to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Participate in system development and process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Stay thoroughly informed about department and company policies to ensure compliance in all duties.
- Perform forklift loading and unloading tasks as required.
- Support cross-departmental functions and undertake additional tasks as reasonably assigned by supervisors.
Behavioral Competencies
- Possession of a technical diploma in metal fabrication or welding is preferred.
- Proven skills in TIG welding and in thermal applications like oxy-fuel hardfacing and brazing.
- Capability to operate an outside diameter (OD) grinding machine.
- Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, schematics, and adhere to production practices.
- Strong team collaboration skills coupled with the ability to work independently.
Educational Background and Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Between 3 to 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent education combined with experience.
- Specific expertise in TIG welding, oxy-fuel hardfacing, and brazing methods.
- Background in engineering and mechanical assembly environments.
- Preferably 5 to 7 years in a manufacturing setting.
- Understanding of English is beneficial.
