Job description

Job Overview

Join PAL Airlines, one of the largest airlines in Atlantic Canada, as a full-time Dispatcher based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This role involves managing flight operations to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across 27 destinations in Eastern Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Traffic Department regarding load planning across various routes and flight segments.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Flight Dispatch to uphold dispatch standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct Operational Flight Watch, monitoring weather and operational factors that could impact flight safety; communicate updates to pilots as needed.
  • Prepare, review, authorize, issue, and amend Operational Flight Plans aligning with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure safe and efficient flight dispatch control on flight days, adhering to Canadian and foreign government regulations and company policies.
  • Complete, audit, and store flight documentation from all operational bases.
  • Initiate and manage airport handling arrangements at offline airports when necessary.
  • Authorize aircraft release for operation per terms outlined in Operational Flight Plans.
  • Provide comprehensive flight crew briefings upon request or when deemed necessary.
  • Trigger accident alarm procedures and assess flight incident reports as required.
  • Support crew scheduling tasks as needed.
  • Advise stations regarding passenger and cargo movements during irregular operations.
  • Work with commercial operations to develop and implement alternate operating plans during irregular operations to minimize customer inconvenience and maintain safety.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated ability for quick decision-making, sound judgment, and adaptability under pressure.
  • Capability to work effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Receptiveness to performance feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a Type B dispatch license or successful completion of Transport Canada dispatch generic exams is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Holding an Industry Canada Restricted Radio certificate is a plus.
