Role Overview
As Director of Software Development within the NetApp AI division, you will lead and expand high-performing engineering teams delivering cutting-edge, scalable services across cloud and on-premises platforms. This strategic role involves setting the technical roadmap, mentoring leaders, and facilitating execution of complex software solutions focused on quality, maintainability, and outstanding user experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and guide software development and architectural strategies across multiple products and teams.
- Scale and lead engineering teams ensuring alignment with business goals and technical standards.
- Oversee full software development lifecycle within an Agile framework, from feature inception to production support.
- Implement and refine development processes, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coach senior engineering leaders fostering innovation, accountability, and inclusive culture.
- Partner with executive and cross-functional teams to prioritize and deliver customer-centric solutions.
- Drive operational excellence emphasizing service reliability, scalability, and performance in cloud-native architectures.
- Recruit, develop, and retain diverse, high-caliber engineering talent.
- Promote engineering and operational best practices organization-wide.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of professional experience in software development, emphasizing large-scale distributed systems.
- 10+ years of leadership experience managing multiple teams and senior technical staff.
- Proven hands-on expertise with distributed database systems and AI model training/deployment.
- Demonstrated ability delivering scalable, low-latency, available cloud services.
- Practical experience with cloud-native design and deployments on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with agentic engineering utilizing local or advanced frontier AI models.
- Experience with distributed storage systems.
- Strong business insight and capability to influence strategic direction at executive levels.
- Exceptional communication skills to clearly convey complex technical topics to varied stakeholders.
- Experience establishing full software development lifecycle best practices.
- Expertise in system performance, scalability, and enterprise architecture.
- Working knowledge of data processing, analytics, and AI/ML systems.
- Domain proficiency in knowledge graphs, semantics, and data modeling.
- Background in building CI/CD infrastructure supporting expansive deployments.
Educational Background
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
