Overview
We are seeking a visionary software engineering leader to spearhead the development of an AI-first engineering initiative within the Database product line at JPMorgan Chase's Dublin office. In this executive role, you will be the primary subject matter expert, collaborating with senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology to guide complex architectural and technical decisions. Your leadership will drive the creation of scalable, reusable software frameworks and AI-driven engineering delivery models that elevate productivity, security, and operational standards across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement sophisticated, scalable software frameworks utilizing appropriate design methodologies to support cross-product Database engineering teams.
- Develop and review secure, high-quality production code, offering senior-level debugging, critique, and quality assurance oversight.
- Serve as the principal domain expert, advising cross-functional teams on architecture, engineering best practices, product delivery, control mechanisms, and technological strategies.
- Advance technical methodologies aligning with contemporary product development, cloud-native architectures, AI-first approaches, secure SDLC, and enterprise control policies.
- Lead the creation and deployment of shared components such as reusable software frameworks, automation tools, APIs, SDKs, infrastructure-as-code, and control-plane features adopted widely across teams.
- Engage and influence leadership across business, product, and technology divisions to harmonize engineering backlogs, strategize technical roadmaps, prioritize delivery, and facilitate adoption.
- Define and oversee AI-enhanced engineering workflows emphasizing human-plus-AI collaboration, validation, auditability, safeguarding measures, escalation protocols, and metrics for productivity and quality.
- Mentor senior and emerging engineers to foster engineering excellence, reusable design principles, expert decision-making capabilities, and AI-driven engineering practices within the Dublin team.
- Establish governance and strategic direction for agentic AI-enabled engineering practices and automation within the software development lifecycle, promoting improvements in speed, quality, stability, and operational efficiency with necessary guardrails.
- Leverage expertise in software development tools, including enterprise-approved AI-assisted development and automation solutions, to increase automation benefits and support scalability.
Qualifications and Skills
- Formal education or certification in software engineering complemented by extensive practical experience in delivering complex, secure, high-caliber production software.
- Hands-on expertise encompassing system design, application development, testing, ensuring operational stability, production readiness, secure SDLC, and enterprise-level delivery.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language with comprehensive knowledge of application development processes and specialization in areas such as cloud computing, AI, machine learning, mobile, platform, or database engineering.
- Ability to apply profound technical knowledge and innovative methods to solve intricate technological challenges within specialized domains.
- Experience in product leadership roles like Product Owner or Product Manager, including backlog management, stakeholder coordination, delivery measurement, and governance.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills for engagement with senior leaders across business, product, and technology sectors.
- Solid business insight related to risk management, control frameworks, cost considerations, resiliency, operational performance, customer impact, and strategic delivery linkage to engineering decisions.
- Practical experience in cloud-native environments, with emphasis on modern architecture, automation, resiliency, observability, and scalable platform/control-plane engineering.
- Demonstrated leadership in adopting AI-enabled engineering practices, defining operational standards for secure, validated workflows utilizing enterprise-approved AI tools.
- In-depth knowledge of responsible AI use, including data sensitivity, security, resiliency, governance, and influencing safe scaling and reuse practices.
Preferred Expertise
- Leadership experience in cross-product platform engineering, cloud database services, database engineering, or database-as-a-service offerings.
- Track record of establishing reusable engineering frameworks, standards, and adoption across multiple teams and product lines.
- Experience managing or building AI-driven engineering workflows encompassing automated testing, AI agents, documentation tools, anomaly detection, operational diagnostics, or developer productivity enhancements.
Additional Information
The successful candidate will be pioneering AI-first engineering initiatives embedding AI-augmented practices into secure, auditable, and production-ready delivery models with accountability for guardrails, quality controls, validation, and team-wide adoption. This role demands proficiency in merging AI-accelerated development activities—such as code generation, test automation, and operational diagnostics—with rigorous human engineering judgment and compliance.
