Director of DevOps Engineering

Overview

As the Director of DevOps Engineering, your foremost responsibility is to support and nurture the growth of your engineering team, ensuring they engage in meaningful work and find professional fulfillment at HealthEdge. This leadership role demands a strong foundation in software development to effectively mentor and challenge your team. You will significantly influence the organizational culture, guide technical deliveries, and collaborate on both strategic direction and execution.

The position involves designing containerization solutions and steering the implementation or migration of large, complex applications to Public Cloud platforms. You will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization towards predictive pipelines and adopting a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) model.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level leadership by advocating and implementing industry best practices related to Infrastructure Architecture, Continuous Integration and Delivery, deployment processes, security, advanced-level support, and test automation.
• Own all aspects of infrastructure and development operations ensuring deliverables meet user needs, commercial goals, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Develop a clear roadmap with defined delivery milestones, capacity planning, and cost forecasts to meet objectives.
• Implement the agreed technology strategy aligned with organizational OKRs.
• Architect, design, and implement highly efficient and secure solutions on Public Cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, focusing on resilience, performance, networking, availability, and deployment strategies like blue-green deployments within business application contexts.
• Define and promote System Development Life Cycle methodologies and related cross-functional tools to encourage adoption and continuous enhancement.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global best practices and advances in commercial cloud and open-source operational technologies.
• Prioritize efforts to elevate the sophistication of software-defined infrastructures.
• Ensure continuous improvement processes and training programs are in place to enhance service quality.
• Champion effective engineering and organizational practices across the company.

Team and Stakeholder Management

• Lead and mentor engineering teams distributed across various time zones.
• Promote and support modern agile software development methodologies.
• Manage recruitment, provide coaching and feedback, and oversee career development initiatives.
• Collaborate as a core member of the leadership team alongside other organizational leaders.
• Engage with management and external stakeholders or customers effectively.
• Foster a cooperative and healthy engineering culture consistent with company values.
• Set and align expectations with other engineering and operational teams.
• Travel globally up to 5% of the time to attend internal and external events.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a university degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering discipline.
• Advanced proficiency in Ansible, Terraform, and Python scripting.
• Experience managing production operations with critical uptime requirements, both in SaaS environments and IT settings.
• Background in managing production operations servicing external customers and partners.
• Solid understanding of DevOps principles and best practices.
• Proven leadership skills with a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.
• Passion for developing engineering talent supported by a demonstrated track record.
• Deep knowledge and enthusiasm for software development practices.
• Awareness of quality drivers in software engineering and ability to uphold them.
• Highly organized with an emphasis on delivering software releases punctually.
• Substantial experience working within agile development environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of modern infrastructure technologies, including Kubernetes or OpenStack.
• Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and technologies in AWS and Azure.
• Hands-on experience with Linux systems and networking.
• Practical skills in software automation and fluency in cloud technology terminology.
