Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Director for our Living Room engineering team, responsible for leading the creation and scaling of premium Connected TV applications across platforms such as Apple tvOS, Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, and emerging devices. This leadership position demands defining engineering strategies, fostering high-performance teams, and ensuring technical excellence within the FOX Living Room ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multiple engineering teams developing applications for Connected TV platforms including Apple tvOS, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku.
• Formulate and implement the engineering strategy and long-term technology roadmap for FOX's Living Room platforms.
• Make architectural decisions to enhance scalability, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability of applications.
• Establish best engineering practices covering architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, releases, observability, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with Product, UX Design, Backend, Data, QA, DevOps, and Platform teams to achieve strategic goals.
• Manage organizational aspects such as hiring, talent development, succession planning, performance management, and expansion of teams.
• Mentor Engineering Managers and senior technical staff to cultivate future leaders.
• Balance short-term feature delivery with long-term platform modernization and technical debt management.
• Drive consistency and engineering standards across multiple Connected TV ecosystems.
• Monitor engineering health, delivery metrics, operational performance, and customer satisfaction across all Living Room products.
• Promote innovation by exploring new technologies, frameworks, and system capabilities.
• Align engineering initiatives with FOX's digital product strategies through collaboration with executive leadership.
• Communicate project status, risks, strategic trade-offs, and outcomes to senior and executive stakeholders.
• Build cross-functional partnerships to enhance execution quality and organizational effectiveness.
• Foster an inclusive culture emphasizing innovation, accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and continual improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• At least 12 years of software engineering experience, including over 5 years leading multiple teams or engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering Connected TV (CTV), OTT, or consumer streaming applications at scale.
• Strong familiarity with Living Room platforms such as Apple tvOS, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku.
• Experience designing scalable, cloud-native distributed systems that support millions of users.
• Proven leadership of Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, and senior technical leaders.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture, distributed systems, CI/CD, observability practices, application security, and performance tuning.
• Successful track record in organizational leadership including hiring, coaching, performance evaluation, and succession planning.
• Experience managing complex, cross-functional engineering programs.
• Excellent business insight with ability to align engineering efforts with company objectives.
• Strong communication, leadership skills, stakeholder management, and capability to present effectively at executive levels.

Preferred Skills

• Experience delivering applications on multiple Connected TV platforms within a single organization.
• Knowledge of video streaming protocols and technologies such as HLS, MPEG-DASH, DRM systems (Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady), and adaptive bitrate streaming.
• Understanding of CDN technologies, media delivery architecture, and video playback optimization.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and contemporary DevOps methodologies.
• Experience with monitoring and analytics tools including Conviva, Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Background managing globally distributed engineering teams.
• A passion for media, entertainment, sports, and digital consumer products.
