Job description

About Redcare Pharmacy

Redcare Pharmacy stands as Europe's premier e-pharmacy, driven by dedicated teams and innovative technology. The company fosters an inclusive and supportive work atmosphere where employees feel appreciated and motivated to advance the vision of ensuring health for every individual. This role offers a fulfilling career path aligned with meaningful purpose.

Role Overview

The Retail Media and Marketplace sectors represent some of Redcare Pharmacy's most dynamic and strategically essential areas. As Director of Engineering, you will steer the development and integration of these two platforms, managing a team of approximately 40 engineers spread over 5 to 7 teams. You will determine the optimal balance between integrating the platforms for a unified experience and keeping them distinct to maximize performance.

This leadership position holds high visibility with direct impact on customer experience and business growth. Reporting to the Executive Director/VP of Engineering, you will lead through Engineering Managers and closely collaborate with Product and Commercial leaders to translate engineering strategies into tangible business results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the engineering strategy for Retail Media and Marketplace, deciding integration points that maximize value for brands, sellers, and Redcare.
  • Mentor and expand your engineering team, nurturing Engineering Managers and their teams while promoting ownership and independence.
  • Ensure engineering excellence by overseeing delivery, system reliability, architecture, and technical debt, consistently enhancing team capabilities without sacrificing quality.
  • Collaborate with Product and Commercial leaders to align engineering initiatives with business metrics such as take rate, advertiser ROAS, seller economics, and contribution margin.
  • Manage technical partnerships with external platforms, integrators, and agencies, overseeing decisions on build versus buy strategies, integrations, SLAs, and vendor performance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of three years managing multiple engineering teams through direct managers or leads, with experience leading organizations through major transitions like domain mergers or platform replacements.
  • Proven background in developing commercial B2B platforms including marketplaces, retail media/ad tech, payments, or seller/partner platforms, ideally involving high-volume, transactional systems.
  • Balance strong technical insight with commercial acumen, linking engineering choices to business outcomes and engaging confidently with senior product and commercial stakeholders.
  • Commitment to engineering excellence demonstrated by measurable improvements, comfort with ambiguous situations, external partnerships, and managing competing priorities. Fluency in English is required.

Additional Information: Benefits

  • Health and wellness: Access to Urban Sports Club membership offers extensive sports activities to support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Flexible work arrangements: Up to 20 work-from-home days per year within the EU for roles not requiring onsite presence.
  • Personal growth: Opportunities for continuous learning through various internal and external training programs.
  • Generous leave policy: 30 days of paid annual vacation plus an extra day on Rosenmontag, with an option for up to 10 unpaid days after one year.
  • Retirement planning: Company pension scheme supported by professional external advisory services.
