DevOps / Platform Engineer – Scientific Computing

About the Role

This position involves overseeing the build, deployment, and infrastructure management for scientific software operating in complex environments such as customer sites, restricted labs, isolated networks, and private cloud platforms. You will tackle the challenge of delivering updatable software in settings beyond direct control, blending conventional cloud platform engineering with edge deployment expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage build processes, continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), and releases for both cloud and on-premise platforms.
• Develop and sustain installers and update mechanisms that function efficiently in isolated and offline settings.
• Administer database migrations and rollback procedures for customer systems.
• Operate Kubernetes and GitOps to orchestrate platform infrastructure.
• Handle secrets management, access control, and infrastructure provisioning through code.
• Establish monitoring and centralized log collection across internal and customer environments.
• Integrate platform components with the organization's identity and deployment tools.
• Implement static code analysis and dependency/license scanning within deployment pipelines.
• Maintain backups, recovery processes, and ensure business continuity for the platform.
• Support audit and compliance efforts aligned with research funding and customer contract requirements.

Performance Metrics

• Release frequency and deployment success rates.
• Speed of patch application on customer installations.
• Platform uptime and detection times for issues.
• Reproducibility of infrastructure from code.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Proven expertise with AWS (or comparable cloud), Kubernetes, and configuration management tools like Ansible at production scale.
• Hands-on experience deploying software in on-premises and offline environments.
• Ownership experience of end-to-end CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to work independently, proactively managing infrastructure solo.
• Commitment to sharing knowledge openly rather than hoarding it.
• Strong interest in the product and underlying scientific applications—not only the technical infrastructure.
• Fluency in English communication.
• Degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Location and Work Model
