Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Software Engineers with 6 to 11 years in device driver development to create, optimize, and sustain kernel-level Host Bus Adapter (HBA) drivers. The role involves close collaboration with hardware, firmware, and OS virtualization teams to produce efficient, high-performance driver solutions suitable for enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain kernel drivers across Linux, VMware ESXi, and Windows platforms for Fibre Channel, FC-NVMe, and SCSI/SAS HBAs.
  • Integrate drivers with operating system storage stacks including SCSI mid-layer, NVMe subsystem, and block layer, managing DMA operations, MSI-X interrupts, and queueing mechanisms.
  • Interface with hardware-level documentation and firmware components to manage register-level I/O, NVRAM/VPD functions, firmware loading, and hardware offloads.
  • Debug kernel crashes, I/O deadlocks, and memory leaks using PCIe analyzers, kernel tracing utilities such as ftrace and perf, and hardware debugging tools.
  • Contribute driver patches upstream to Linux or package out-of-tree drivers for enterprise distributions including RHEL, SLES, and VMware.

Required Expertise

  • Advanced skills in C and C++ with focus on pointer arithmetic, memory handling, and thread-safe concurrent programming.
  • Minimum five years’ experience developing kernel drivers (Linux, Windows, or ESXi), familiar with synchronization primitives such as spinlocks, mutexes, and RCU.
  • Comprehensive understanding of PCI and PCIe technologies, including configuration space, base address registers, and PCIe generations 4, 5, and 6.
  • Proficient with debugging tools such as GDB, kernel crash utilities (Kdump/Crash), and PCIe protocol analyzers including LeCroy/Teledyne and Fibre Channel analyzers.

Preferred Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Fibre Channel protocols (FC-P2P, FC-SAN, FCoE), SCSI architecture, or NVMe/FC-NVMe standards.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining or developing QLogic qla2xxx drivers.
  • Exposure to VMware ESXi driver frameworks (Native Driver Kit) or Windows Driver Model frameworks (WDK/KMDF).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test kits, NVRAM/VPD flashing processes, and diagnostic scripting for production lines.
  • Capability in scripting languages such as Python or Bash to automate driver testing.

Education and Eligibility

Applicants should hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree in any engineering specialization.
