About the Role
We are seeking a Design System Specialist to join a top-tier digital experience and innovation team based in Doha, Qatar. This position involves a 12-month contract with potential extensions and requires proficiency in Arabic. The successful candidate will take charge of developing and scaling a comprehensive design system used across various digital products and transformation projects.
This role is perfect for a professional who combines expertise in UX/UI design with front-end development skills, focusing on creating a robust and scalable design system beyond just a visual component library in Figma.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and govern an all-encompassing design system, including foundations, patterns, components, documentation, and best practice usage guidelines.
- Develop and manage scalable Figma libraries and reusable design components.
- Define and uphold design tokens related to color, typography, spacing, themes, and other essential properties.
- Create and oversee an automated pipeline for design tokens bridging the design and development environments.
- Collaborate closely with front-end developers to build and maintain coded component libraries using tools like Storybook.
- Ensure strong alignment and traceability between Figma components and their production counterparts.
- Establish contribution workflows, version control, release management, and governance strategies for the design system.
- Integrate accessibility, responsiveness, and quality assurance measures throughout component development.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to enhance the design-to-development workflow.
- Advocate for and support the adoption of the design system across various teams and initiatives.
- Continuously refine the system to enhance scalability, consistency, and delivery efficiency.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in creating, scaling, or managing enterprise-level design systems. They should be adept at both the design and development aspects of design systems, skilled in various tools and methodologies including:
- Figma
- Design system architecture and governance
- Component libraries and design tokens
- Storybook and coded component libraries
- Design-to-code workflows
- Accessibility and responsive design
- Versioning, documentation, and process creation
The role demands an understanding of collaboration between designers and developers to ensure designs are accurately realized in production. Experience with automated design-token pipelines and working hands-on with development teams is highly desirable.
