About the Company

With a robust project pipeline, they are seeking a skilled Design Manager to join their Christchurch office. This pivotal position operates within the project delivery framework, overseeing the entire design lifecycle and acting as the vital connection between clients, consultants, and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and guide the design process from the pre-construction phase through project completion.
• Coordinate efforts between architects, engineers, specialist consultants, and subcontractors.
• Manage design timelines, deliverables, and approval processes to keep projects on schedule.
• Assess design documents emphasizing constructability, regulatory compliance, and quality standards.
• Identify potential risks in design and explore opportunities for value engineering and cost savings.
• Handle the consenting procedures ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, and on-site teams for a smooth shift from design to construction.
• Provide expert technical assistance during construction, addressing design questions and resolving issues.
• Lead design-related meetings and maintain strong, proactive relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Support tendering, procurement, and early contractor involvement activities when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of five years' experience in Design Management, preferably within a main contracting company.
• Background in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
• In-depth knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code, consenting processes, and construction practices.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary consultant teams on large-scale projects.
• Expertise in design coordination, documentation, and constructability.
• Commercially savvy with an understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
• Outstanding stakeholder management and communication capabilities.
• Confidence in challenging design proposals and driving optimal solutions.
• Highly organized, proactive, and focused on delivering practical solutions.
