Database Engineer / DBA

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Engineer / DBA to oversee and support robust enterprise database environments utilizing Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle administration and upkeep of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Continuously monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance metrics.
• Conduct installations, configurations, patching activities, upgrades, and routine maintenance tasks.
• Oversee backup, recovery, restoration processes and validate data integrity.
• Investigate and resolve complex database incidents, employing root-cause analyses.
• Maintain and support high-availability setups and disaster recovery mechanisms.
• Manage Oracle RAC, Data Guard, SQL Server high availability, replication, and related frameworks as applicable.
• Optimize database performance through tuning efforts.
• Reinforce database security through hardening practices, access controls, and compliance alignment.
• Plan and forecast database capacity requirements for scaling needs.
• Assist with database migrations, upgrades, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
• Document operational workflows and technical procedures rigorously.
• Collaborate with teams across applications, infrastructure, security, and vendors to address technical challenges.
• Engage in disaster recovery drills ensuring recovery objectives are effectively met.
• Deliver second and third level technical support for critical database issues and escalations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a relevant discipline.
• At least four years of experience in database administration or engineering roles.
• Hands-on expertise with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Proficient in backup/recovery, patching, upgrade processes, and performance tuning.
• Experience supporting enterprise-grade production database environments.
• In-depth knowledge of security practices for databases including access management and hardening.
• Familiarity with high availability, replication, and disaster recovery technologies.
• Utilize tools for database monitoring and performance management.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Applied experience following ITIL principles for incident, problem, and change management.

Preferred Certifications

• Certification in Oracle Database technologies.
• Microsoft Azure Database or SQL related certification.
• Training or certification in Oracle RAC or Data Guard.
• Relevant Microsoft SQL Server certifications.
