Overview
We seek an experienced MongoDB Database Administrator responsible for managing and enhancing our vital database systems. This role involves overseeing MongoDB architecture, ensuring top performance, scalability, and dependability, while also gaining some exposure to relational databases like Oracle and PostgreSQL. Collaboration with technical groups to optimize database operations and resilience across both cloud and live production settings is key.
Primary Duties
- Handle the full lifecycle of MongoDB including designing architecture, deployment, performing upgrades, maintenance tasks, and implementing security measures.
- Design and administer Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters to guarantee high availability and horizontal scalability.
- Monitor live databases to identify and fix performance bottlenecks such as locking conflicts, memory usage, and replication delays.
- Work alongside developers to optimize queries, aggregation pipelines, and indexing approaches.
- Manage MongoDB Atlas and self-hosted databases hosted on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
- Create and sustain backup strategies, recovery processes, point-in-time restores, and failover protocols.
- Provide support for other database environments including Oracle and PostgreSQL as needed.
- Automate standard database maintenance and health monitoring tasks.
- Take part in an on-call rotation to support production systems.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Between 2 and 5 years of direct experience managing MongoDB in a production setting.
- Hands-on knowledge with Replica Sets, Sharding, and managing clusters.
- Strong understanding of WiredTiger storage engine, indexing techniques, and MongoDB profiling utilities.
- Proven skills in database performance tuning and troubleshooting within Linux or Unix environments.
- Experience managing cloud database workloads on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.
- Proficient English communication skills; Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus for regional collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field, or comparable practical experience.
Additional Advantages
- Knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL or other NoSQL databases is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Python or Shell scripting for automating database tasks.
- Understanding of security concepts including TLS/SSL, role-based access control (RBAC), and encryption of stored data.
- Experience with monitoring and management tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or MongoDB Ops Manager.
