Job description

About Wētā Workshop

Wētā Workshop is a creative design and manufacturing studio dedicated to transforming imaginative concepts into reality—ranging from creatures and costumes to miniatures, weapons, vehicles, and entire worlds. Their talented team continuously pushes the boundaries of practical effects.

Our IT department delivers essential technological support, ensuring all systems, applications, and equipment function smoothly, enabling creative teams to excel.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Systems Administrator to join our IT team, serving as the bridge between Systems Engineers and IT Support Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration of core business systems including Odoo ERP, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, security tools, and production software, ensuring all changes are managed through formal change control processes.
  • Manage identity and access control through provisioning, permission management, and routine access audits.
  • Take ownership of the Standard Operating Environment (SOE), manage workstation builds, endpoint management, and coordinate software and hardware deployment across the fleet, serving as an escalation point for Support Technicians.
  • Administer Windows and Linux servers and handle virtualisation tasks including patching, monitoring, backups, and network troubleshooting.
  • Provide support for specialized production technologies such as 3D printing and scanning, manufacturing systems, and high-performance workstations.
  • Maintain rigorous security standards, address vulnerabilities proactively, and assist in managing security incidents.
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects, automate routine operational tasks, and support development efforts under DevOps guidance.
  • Mentor Support Technicians and assist in delivering training.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum five years of experience in IT systems administration.
  • Proven ability as a proactive, analytical troubleshooter focused on resolving root causes and exercising sound judgment regarding fixes, escalation, or following change management procedures.
  • Experience in highly secure environments such as banking, insurance, legal, or defense sectors is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with a strong customer-service focus.
  • Technical expertise including:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as M365, Active Directory, Entra, Azure, and Group Policy.
    • Business software administration experience, preferably with ERP systems and formal change management processes.
    • Windows endpoint management skills including software packaging and deployment.
    • Windows Server administration and practical enterprise networking experience.
    • Familiarity with virtualization platforms like VMware and Hyper-V.
    • Strong security fundamentals: patching, hardening, least privilege principles, access control, and credential management.
    • Comfort and enthusiasm for emerging technologies including AI, with the ability to integrate them into daily operations and automation within established procedures and governance.
