Role Overview
We are seeking a Junior to Mid-level Database Administrator to join our Systems Engineering team. In this role, you will assist in operating, monitoring, and enhancing our Azure SQL environments while gaining valuable cloud database experience within an international team supported by senior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily management of Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments under senior guidance.
- Utilize Azure Monitor, Azure Metrics, and Query Performance Insight to audit database health, report anomalies, and document observations.
- Assist in troubleshooting performance by analyzing slow-running queries, evaluating execution plans, and implementing optimizations with oversight.
- Perform backup and restoration tasks employing Azure Backup and automated policies.
- Engage in routine recovery testing exercises.
- Help maintain security through managing logins, roles, and permissions adhering to least-privilege access.
- Support patching and upgrading databases in non-production settings, preparing documentation for senior review before production deployment.
- Collaborate with development teams reviewing database schemas, highlighting any concerns prior to deployment.
- Develop automation scripts in T-SQL and PowerShell to streamline manual operations.
- Keep comprehensive documentation including operational runbooks, backup schedules, access matrices, and incident logs.
- Take part in on-call rotations alongside senior DBAs to build problem-resolution skills.
- Monitor Azure resource consumption and costs, identifying unexpected usage or scaling possibilities.
Candidate Profile
- Between 1 to 3 years of practical experience in database administration.
- Direct hands-on expertise with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server version 2016 or newer.
- Strong command of SQL and T-SQL, including writing queries, stored procedures, and scripting basics.
- Familiarity with cloud database management via Azure Portal.
- Solid understanding of backup, restore, and recovery methodologies for databases.
- Knowledge of implementing security: managing logins, user roles, and permission settings.
- Experience or familiarity with Azure Monitor, PowerShell scripting, Azure CLI or equivalent tools is advantageous.
- Awareness of high-availability solutions like geo-replication or failover groups is a plus.
- Exposure to DevOps methodologies related to database CI/CD or deployment automation tools is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills combined with a collaborative approach and composure under pressure.
- A proactive learner keen to master cloud technologies, automation, and process improvements.
- Capable of functioning effectively within an international and team-oriented work culture.
- Fluency in English is required.
