Role Overview

The Data Scientist II position involves collaborating with Global Supply Chain teams to enhance operational and planning decisions by leveraging forecasting, optimization, predictive analytics, and automation. Responsibilities include developing and deploying data science solutions encompassing demand planning, supply planning, and inventory management. The role requires taking concepts through to production, embedding solutions into workflows, and ensuring continuous refinement.

This role is based in Auckland, New Zealand, with opportunities across various locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Global Supply Chain stakeholders to identify and improve decision-making processes, support automation, and enhance existing models.
• Translate complex business challenges into actionable analytical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
• Create forecasting, optimization, predictive, and prescriptive analytics models.
• Manage the full lifecycle of data science projects from data exploration, development, validation, production deployment, to ongoing monitoring and improvement.
• Implement solutions using enterprise governance standards and integrate them into daily operational processes.
• Analyze solution performance, adoption, and impact to ensure continuous business value.
• Explore AI-driven reporting, generate automated insights, and enhance decision-support tools.
• Work with Data Architecture and Platform teams to productionize models on enterprise AWS infrastructure adhering to technical standards.
• Maintain and optimize deployed models ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Document methodologies, assumptions, limitations, and operational needs of models.
• Effectively communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Participate in use-case prioritization, backlog refinement, and advancement of technical practices.
• Support data literacy initiatives and technical skill development within Global Supply Chain and broader data communities.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficiency with Python programming and SQL querying languages.
• Experience building forecasting, optimization, and machine learning models.
• Strong foundation in statistics, model validation, and evaluation techniques.
• Knowledge of software development best practices including testing, version control, reproducibility, monitoring, and maintenance of models.
• Demonstrated history of moving analytical and machine learning solutions from development to production environments.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, adept at translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Ability to clearly explain model outcomes, uncertainties, and limitations to non-technical stakeholders.
• Responsible use of AI-assisted tools with independent assessment of results and risks.

Desirable Attributes

• Familiarity with AWS tools and enterprise data analytics platforms.
• Experience with data transformation and workflow tools such as dbt and Airflow.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Machine Learning Operations (MLOps).
• Postgraduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or related fields.
• Prior involvement in supply chain domains including demand planning, supply planning, inventory optimization, or logistics.
