Embedded within a collaborative data governance team, you will play a vital role in implementing a new governance framework and promoting best data management practices throughout the company.

Role Overview

As a Data Governance Analyst, your main responsibility is to assist with the deployment, adoption, and ongoing refinement of data governance policies across important business domains. Collaborating closely with both business and technical stakeholders, you'll help set governance standards, support data steward roles, and ensure governance controls are consistently applied across the organisation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Help design and maintain data governance standards, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Keep governance documentation, decision records, and follow up on pending governance tasks up to date.
  • Facilitate governance forums, working groups, and data stewardship meetings.
  • Engage with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and technical teams to gather information and back governance initiatives.
  • Identify, document, and manage Critical Data Elements (CDEs), business definitions, classifications, and metadata.
  • Assist with onboarding Data Stewards and encouraging acceptance of governance duties across the business.
  • Support governance reporting, risk detection, and issue management for governance boards and committees.
  • Generate governance reports to highlight and remedy any gaps in data governance.
  • Maintain governance information within related platforms and tools.
  • Contribute to ongoing governance maturity and continual process improvements.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least four years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Metadata Management, or related fields.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data governance elements such as stewardship, quality, metadata management, classification, and ownership.
  • Experience using enterprise Data Governance tools like Collibra or similar software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with and influence both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent skills in documentation, reporting, and managing governance processes.
  • Strong facilitation and communication abilities, capable of conveying governance ideas to non-technical audiences.
  • Background working in extensive, intricate, or regulated environments.
  • Strong organisational abilities with competence in juggling various priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, protection, records management, or compliance standards is considered a plus.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Management, Business, Information Technology, or similar disciplines.
