Job description
Your New Company
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to provide expert technical advice on a wide range of geotechnical and natural hazard issues across Auckland.
You will join a well-respected technical team that significantly contributes to shaping the long-term resilience of Auckland. Working within a specialist geotechnical unit, you'll be part of a collaborative and high-achieving group led by a seasoned manager dedicated to nurturing talent and encouraging continuous professional growth.
Your New Role
This position offers a distinctive alternative to conventional consultancy roles. Instead of focusing solely on detailed designs and calculations, you will apply your technical expertise to support decisions based on risk analysis, sway outcomes, and deliver practical solutions with direct benefits to communities and the built environment.
Your expertise will be utilized across diverse natural hazard, slope stability, consent, and infrastructure-related challenges. This role allows you to enhance your knowledge in geotechnical risk management and grasp broader factors influencing Auckland's development and resilience.
You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external consultants, developers, and community groups, reviewing geotechnical data, providing expert advice, and contributing to informed risk-based decisions.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Geology.
- Professional registration as Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or Engineering Geologist is preferred but not mandatory.
- At least seven years’ experience in a senior geotechnical or engineering geology role.
- Comprehensive understanding of geotechnical investigations, slope stability, natural hazard and geohazard assessments.
- Proficiency in reviewing technical reports, assessments, and design documents.
- Familiarity with New Zealand legislation, standards, and regulatory consent procedures.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
What You’ll Receive in Return
- Engagement on projects that have a tangible impact on community safety and resilience.
- Experience working with a broad spectrum of geotechnical, regulatory, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Opportunities to develop expertise in risk management and strategic decision-making.
- A supportive and inclusive team known for high performance.
- Flexible working options, including remote work from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Adjustable work hours to maintain work-life balance.
- Continuous learning, mentoring, and professional development programs.
- A secure, long-term career with strong potential for advancement.
