We continuously learn, expand our thinking, improve skills, and redefine what is possible. Join us for a dynamic and meaningful career where you can make a real impact alongside brilliant minds.
As a Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for our manufacturing data landscape. Your systems will ingest data from diverse sources such as MES, SAP, device databases, historian systems, apps, and production facilities, delivering quality-assured and contextualized data for downstream systems, data science applications, and AI use cases. You will also serve as an AI Ambassador promoting responsible, user-focused, and regulatory-compliant AI usage in production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and maintain robust data pipelines integrating manufacturing systems data.
- Manage data lake, data store, and data warehouse platforms using AWS services and Databricks to handle manufacturing data for data science and AI scenarios.
- Develop code and make technology and system decisions to implement large ETL/ELT processes.
- Use GitHub and adhere to DevOps, version control, and documentation best practices.
- Design interfaces and data transformations via integration tools such as Node-RED or equivalents; implement equipment connectivity and interfaces using protocols like OPC UA for manufacturing asset integration.
- Collaborate actively with data scientists to develop and implement prediction models, advanced analytics, and AI use cases.
- Lead initiatives as AI Ambassador to integrate AI responsibly into production processes, including data provisioning, automation, decision support, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with internal departments, global data scientists community, external suppliers, tech providers, universities, consultants, and industry partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field with practical experience in data engineering, data analysis, or software development.
- Several years of experience building scalable data models, architectures, and ETL/ELT pipelines handling structured and unstructured data from various sources.
- Experience working with both structured and unstructured data; proficiency in scripting and tool development to accelerate data processing.
- Strong command of SQL, AWS cloud platforms, and comprehensive programming capabilities.
- Knowledge of decentralized systems and agile software development methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders in visible, cross-functional roles, with enthusiasm for structured planning and implementation of data and AI projects.
- Competence in defining and managing project plans and data availability.
- Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
Contract and Compensation
The position is fixed-term for 24 months.
We offer a competitive annual salary between 77300 and 93800 euros (full-time) plus a variable component, depending on qualifications, skills, and experience.

- Family support programs including corporate daycare centers, assistance finding childcare, caregiving leave, holiday programs, and more.
- Opportunities for professional growth through learning and development programs, training sessions from Bayer Learning Academy, development dialogues, coaching, and mentoring.
- Health and wellness initiatives such as free health checks with company physicians and health seminars.
- An inclusive work environment celebrating diversity and encouraging you to bring your whole self.
