Overview
As a Data Center Technician Manager at Microsoft, you will lead and coach a team responsible for hardware deployments, equipment diagnostics, and hardware decommissions. Your role includes managing technician performance and prioritizing their tasks while tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Key Responsibilities
- Inspire success by empowering and holding team members accountable while fostering a positive and efficient team environment.
- Oversee compliance and quality of data center services.
- Ensure team adheres to Data Center Services policies, procedures, deadlines, and change management processes.
- Train technicians on installation, deployment, replacement, and quality verification procedures.
- Validate that post-execution quality checks are properly completed and take corrective measures if needed.
- Escalate and resolve issues through designated channels, sharing knowledge across teams.
- Assess impacts of process changes on service delivery and communicate relevant updates across departments.
- Lead team meetings to prioritize work, adjust schedules, and balance workloads in response to change.
- Complete mandatory safety training, conduct safety briefings, and participate in site safety committees.
- Enforce adherence to safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of equipment and hazardous materials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with foundational understanding of computer hardware and components.
- At least 3 years’ experience in IT equipment support or related technical field.
- Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
- Flexibility to work shifts including evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Successful completion of Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and biennially thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or commensurate experience.
- Over 4 years of experience supporting IT hardware or related technologies.
- 3+ years in a 24x7x365 production or mission-critical data center environment.
- Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), or Six Sigma Green Belt.
- At least 2 years managing a diverse technical or IT team of up to 10 employees.
