Overview

Join Microsoft as a Data Center Technician, where you will be responsible for staging, installing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning hardware within Microsoft's expansive global data centers. This role offers an excellent chance to deepen your understanding of data center operations, enhance mentoring abilities by guiding peers, and become familiar with security and data governance protocols, all while advancing your career in cloud infrastructure.

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team supports a massive network of over 200 data centers across 32 countries, powering core services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting according to prescribed standards, swiftly pinpointing faults and replacing defective parts with minimal disruption to customers and business.
  • Perform post-installation checks to confirm proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling as per safety guidelines, deployment standards, and Network Design Tasks.
  • Carry out hardware decommissioning for maintenance activities such as memory upgrades or rebuilds following established protocols with little supervision.
  • Effectively communicate and escalate incidents to data center operations management, team leads, and engineering experts when necessary.
  • Support and mentor colleagues in completing difficult or intricate tasks.
  • Complete all mandated training for the role and engage in on-the-job learning by observing experienced technicians.
  • Contribute positively to team dynamics by sharing knowledge, participating in meetings, and maintaining awareness of coworkers' progress.
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for service quality and the user experience, upholding data center operational standards.
  • Embody Microsoft's core values and culture.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware and components.
  • Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology is desirable.
  • Must comply with Microsoft's security screening procedures, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hiring and every two years thereafter.
  • Preferred certifications include CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, and Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
