Data Center Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to oversee the operation, upkeep, and enhancement of all mechanical systems within a critical data center facility located in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This position is crucial to maintaining uninterrupted functionality of essential cooling infrastructure such as HVAC systems, chilled water pumps, CRAC/CRAH units, and related mechanical equipment supporting around-the-clock mission-critical operations.

Core Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment including chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, FCUs, chilled water pumps, cooling towers, HVAC, heat exchangers, water treatment, and fuel systems.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, preparing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) aligned with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
• Carry out authorized equipment shutdowns, startups, isolation, restoration, and redundancy rotations as required to sustain system integrity.
• Monitor the performance of cooling systems by assessing equipment conditions such as temperatures, pressures, and flow rates.
• Lead and supervise mechanical technicians; liaise with OEMs and vendors for extensive maintenance work and equipment malfunctions.
• Respond promptly to mechanical emergencies and participate in root cause analysis (RCA), including implementing corrective and preventive measures.
• Maintain system redundancy, reliability, and operational resilience to ensure consistent cooling availability.
• Implement approved system changes, assist in testing, commissioning, and continuing system optimization.
• Manage inventories of critical spare parts, tools, testing apparatus, and keep calibration records up to date.
• Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), MOPs, emergency operating procedures (EOPs), and site-specific protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• At least five years’ experience working in data center or mission-critical facilities, with a focus on mechanical operations.
• Solid expertise with chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, chilled water systems, pumps, and HVAC technology.
• Experience with Tier III or Tier IV data centers is preferred.
• Demonstrated capability in troubleshooting mechanical systems along with excellent communication skills and team leadership experience.
• Proven experience managing technicians, OEM vendors, and contractors effectively.
• Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to shift work including on-call responsibilities.

Preferred Certifications and Training

• Data Center Certified Professional (CDCP) or equivalent qualifications.
• Uptime Institute credentials, Data Center Operations Management (DCOM) or Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) knowledge.
• HVAC and Chiller OEM training.
• Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE), and Crisis/Incident Management training.
