About the Role
Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, operation, and management of AWS's global data center infrastructure. This critical team ensures the continuous availability of servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that underpin AWS cloud services worldwide. As a Data Center Technician, you will work within the Data Center Operations (DCO) team, managing and maintaining IT hardware and infrastructure within AWS Cloud regions. The position offers an opportunity to develop comprehensive troubleshooting skills involving hardware, networking, and software components.
Responsibilities
- Follow stringent safety procedures and promote a culture of safety excellence across data center operations.
- Lead safety projects and initiatives to enhance workplace safety standards.
- Adhere strictly to all Red Zone (RZ) and operational floor safety protocols.
- Support routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with site regulations.
- Diagnose and repair hardware and network issues promptly within internal Service Level Agreements.
- Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
- Perform manual handling of equipment up to 18 kg in compliance with regulations and work at heights when necessary.
- Execute various Data Center Operations procedures such as break-and-fix repairs, host-level and server rack decommissions, media removal and destruction, and first responder tasks.
- Troubleshoot hardware problems using standard operating procedures and documentation, escalating when deviations occur.
- Operate across multiple DCO process areas, applying knowledge and discretion to achieve operational goals.
- Maintain clear communication through tickets, task entries, and reports; engage effectively in team meetings and presentations.
- Contribute to operational excellence by improving workflow processes, meeting team metrics on ticket resolution, decom throughput, and safety compliance.
- Support shift-based work schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations as required.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware components.
- Familiarity with networking concepts and practices.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field is advantageous.
- Experience working within data centers or other critical operational environments.
- Proven ability to manage customer interactions effectively and work well under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and understanding of network protocols.
