Role Overview
The Customer Engineer, also known as Field Service Engineer, works closely with clients to install, maintain, and enhance specialized equipment. Utilizing digital analytic tools and basic diagnostic practices, you will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across a variety of systems including electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas. Direct communication and coordination with customers are key to ensuring operational excellence and superior service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Senior Field Service Engineers in installation, maintenance, and upgrades of client machinery.
- Utilize digital analytics tools to aid in troubleshooting.
- Employ fundamental diagnostic techniques to identify and solve equipment issues under guidance.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on multiple systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Engage directly with customers to coordinate activities and deliver high-quality service.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or relevant trade certification.
- 1 to 2 years’ work history in customer or field service support or a related technical role.
- Comfortable reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematic diagrams.
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving basic technical difficulties.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems such as pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum technology, and thermodynamics.
- Familiarity with hand tools and digital multimeters.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to travel internationally if needed.
- Compliance with on-site safety, environmental standards, and COVID-19 protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of experience in customer or field service support or a related technical area.
Physical Demands
The role often involves extended walking, standing, and working in constrained spaces requiring physical exertion such as bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. Distinguishing color, safely handling electrical components, and working in noisy environments are required. Working in clean room settings necessitates the use of personal protective equipment like coveralls, gloves, respirators, and safety glasses.
