Custodian

Position Summary

We are looking for a reliable and diligent Custodian to uphold the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of our facilities, equipment, and grounds at an industrial laundry site. The role includes various cleaning, upkeep, material handling, and facility-support tasks. The ideal candidate prioritizes safety, can work autonomously and collaboratively, and is capable of physically demanding duties throughout their shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough cleaning of plant machinery using compressed air and approved cleaning techniques.
• Scrub, disinfect, vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and surfaces across the facility, including offices, bathrooms, break areas, and production zones.
• Dispose of trash, address spills, replace air fresheners, swap out light bulbs, and maintain water coolers.
• Keep the work environment orderly and tidy.
• Relocate furniture, supplies, textiles, and equipment between departments or to storage as required.
• Prepare facilities and work areas for meetings, banquets, and other events.
• Maintain external grounds by trimming foliage and clearing snow, leaves, and debris from walkways.
• Report any repairs, spills, safety hazards, or other facility-related issues promptly to supervisors.
• Operate powered industrial vehicles where certified to move, load, and unload materials.
• Track and restock cleaning and maintenance supplies to maintain inventory levels.
• Record maintenance and cleaning activities accurately.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, tools, and painting methods.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple duties independently and as part of a team.
• Basic knowledge and safe handling of hand tools.
• Capable of comprehending and following written and oral instructions.
• Ability to operate a powered industrial truck safely and acquire certification if required.
• Strong dedication to sustaining a safe, clean, and well-organized workplace.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Capacity for bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
• Frequent overhead reaching.
• Capability to push, pull, and grip objects.
• Lift weights up to 90 pounds and carry loads up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

• Indoor and outdoor conditions within an industrial laundry facility.
• Exposure to large machinery and industrial equipment, office areas, and outdoor grounds.
• Variable temperatures and humidity levels.
• Presence of odors, lint, dust, and other typical industrial laundry elements.
• Areas that may be cramped or limited in space.

Mandatory use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with safety protocols are required at all times.
