Custodial Maintenance III

About the Position

The Custodial Maintenance III role at Jacksonville State University involves performing cleaning duties both inside and outside campus buildings. The position requires moving heavy equipment and supplies between various locations on campus, with occasional use of pesticides under careful guidance to ensure safety. This role also carries responsibilities as a lead worker for a small team of custodial staff and housekeepers, operating with considerable independence while receiving oral instructions from supervisors.

Work Schedule and Compensation

This full-time job follows a typical schedule of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, though flexibility is needed for evening and weekend shifts. The starting hourly wage is $11.05.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Transporting boxes of supplies such as toilet paper and paper towels to various campus buildings and unloading shipments at warehouses or supply rooms.
• Cleaning windows both inside and outside buildings using telescopic equipment for high areas.
• Maintaining cleanliness in athletic facilities including training rooms, shower and dressing rooms, press boxes, stands, and dugouts.
• Collecting litter from building exteriors and athletic fields.
• Rearranging furniture in offices, classrooms, and residence halls to facilitate floor cleaning and waxing.
• Handling and carrying cleaning machines and tools including buffers, upright and shoulder vacuums, mops, brooms, and pesticide sprayers.
• Operating floor cleaning machines and carpet shampooers, along with applying pesticides safely.
• Driving university vans and small trucks to transport cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Performing minor maintenance tasks on vacuum cleaners and buffers.
• Training less experienced custodial staff in effective cleaning practices and equipment usage, and delegating tasks to lower-level housekeepers.
• Completing various other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• Prior experience in housekeeping.
• A valid driver's license.
