About the Role

The Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST), running from 2022 to 2029 and funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to enhance inclusive participation in the Blue Economy among youth, women, and vulnerable groups in Kenya. Collaborating with Canadian and Kenyan institutions and local governments, KBEST focuses on competency-based education tied to employment opportunities in the Blue Economy sectors.

As the Curriculum Development Specialist based in Nairobi, reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor, you will be the primary technical resource supporting curriculum development between Canadian and Kenyan TVET institutions and government ministries. You will aid 11 institutional partnerships and work closely with occupational standards harmonization bodies such as TVETA, CDACC, and KMA.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Occupational Standards Harmonization partnership to identify occupational standards and develop aligned qualifications, curricula, and training materials related to the Blue Economy.
• Track and oversee progress in curriculum development and provide expert advice on validation and regulatory compliance for curricular approvals.
• Assist project teams and institutional partners with crafting competency-based education and training (CBET) curricula and related advisory.
• Facilitate connections between institutional partners, industry associations, and Sector Skills Advisory Committees for curriculum validation.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Marine Engineering, Hospitality/Catering Management, Fisheries and Aquaculture, or related fields, plus a Diploma or Postgraduate Diploma in Education or Technical Education.
• At least three years of relevant experience in creating occupational standards, qualifications, and curricula within Kenyan TVET frameworks.
• Familiarity with Kenya's TVET sector and its regulatory bodies.
• Knowledge of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), micro-credentialing, partial qualifications, and conversion course development aligned with Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF).
• Proficiency in CBET DACUM methodology, including curriculum, assessment tools, and learning guide development.
• Experience developing occupational profiles and standards.
• Competence in creating digital content for CBET curricula.
