Critical Environment Technician - Shift Work 24/7

Overview

The Senior Critical Environment Technician (CET) role within the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team at Microsoft entails maintaining vital datacenter infrastructure to ensure continuous operation. Responsibilities span collaborating with suppliers and vendors, liaising with management on operational, risk and safety issues, mentoring fellow technicians, conducting maintenance activities, tackling onsite incidents in coordination with facilities experts, and monitoring equipment performance using telemetry and other platforms.

Microsoft’s CO+I team supports foundational cloud infrastructure underlying key online services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Key Responsibilities

• Operate as a specialist in a primary critical environment domain (electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) handling complex tasks independently.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment such as HVAC, mechanical systems, and controls to identify unsafe or irregular conditions and escalating issues as per policies.
• Use internal computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document asset status and complete maintenance requests.
• Respond rapidly and lead onsite incident teams for operational anomalies, coordinating corrective repairs with other professionals without supervision.
• Develop or improve emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to critical environment operations and incidents.
• Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs on critical environment equipment following established procedures and escalate when necessary.
• Possess strong practical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment, systems, and components autonomously within areas of expertise.
• Provide guidance to less experienced colleagues in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Comply with safety, security, and environmental regulations, including evaluating hazards, participating in safety talks, and following company and legal mandates.
• Demonstrate alignment with organizational culture and values throughout all activities.

Qualifications

Required:

• Completion of High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, complemented by practical mission-critical environment experience such as in datacenters, oil and gas, hospitals, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing sectors.
• Experience in a specialized area of critical environment operations such as mechanical, electrical, or controls disciplines.

Preferred:

• High School Diploma or GED and mission-critical experience as above.
• Or possession of Associate's Degree, technical trade certification, or equivalent education along with related experience.

Background Check

Applicants must pass Microsoft’s Cloud Background Check on hiring and every two years thereafter, alongside any customer or government-required screenings.

Compensation and Other Information

The typical salary range for this position in Ireland is €52,300 to €75,200 annually. Some positions may offer additional benefits and compensation.
