Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Critical Environment Program Manager specializing in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering to oversee the safe and dependable functioning of datacenter electrical and mechanical systems. These systems include power infrastructure, cooling solutions, control mechanisms, switchgear, UPS, generators, transformers, chillers, and life-safety equipment. The role involves hands-on technical expertise combined with engineering judgment and project management to enhance risk mitigation, reliability, and operational excellence at the datacenter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery and management of electrical and mechanical datacenter infrastructure, comprising power systems, cooling equipment, switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies, generators, transformers, and chillers.
  • Diagnose and address recurrent system failures, optimize maintenance processes, implement corrective actions, conduct upgrades, oversee commissioning, and manage lifecycle replacements.
  • Drive operational improvements by enhancing availability, reducing severity incidents (SEV), managing backlog repair tasks, decreasing time to restore (TTR), and boosting preventive maintenance performance, using dashboards, data analytics, and structured business reviews.
  • Manage technical risks ensuring compliance with Microsoft standards, operational procedures (MOP/SOP), change management policies, datacenter operations standards (DCOS), ISO standards, and audit requirements.
  • Convert engineering and operational risks into clearly defined technical projects, managing priorities, schedules, dependencies, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with Critical Environment operations managers, engineering teams, vendors, and regional or global stakeholders to foster alignment and lead initiatives spanning campus or metropolitan areas.
  • Communicate risks, impediments, and strategic decisions transparently; foster accountability, encourage collaboration, promote continuous improvement, and support data-informed decision-making aligned with Microsoft’s core values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Practical experience working in datacenter Critical Environments related to power systems, switchgear, UPS, generators, cooling, and control systems.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, cooling, and life-safety systems through software such as EPMS, BCM, and BAS.
  • Ability to undergo and meet Microsoft Cloud background check requirements and any other related security screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced technical education or certifications in electrical or mechanical engineering, power systems, HVAC, controls, computer science, telecommunications, or technical trades.
  • Certifications such as ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, network certifications, ITIL, or Critical Data Center Professional (CDCP); project management certifications such as PMP advantageous when applied to technical engineering delivery.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, commissioning, technical acceptance, switching operations, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle management of critical systems.
  • Proven track record in delivering major datacenter infrastructure upgrades within live critical environments.
