Microsoft's Cloud Infrastructure and Operations (MCIO) division powers its extensive cloud services, supporting more than 200 online businesses including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Azure platform. The infrastructure spans over 200 datacenters worldwide across 32 countries, hosting millions of servers and serving over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in 90+ countries. This Sydney-based role requires full onsite presence along with verification of Australian Citizenship via a valid Australian passport to comply with federal government security requirements.
Responsibilities
- Promote a culture prioritizing safety, security, and compliance across all datacenter operations.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Control System experts supporting Microsoft's online services.
- Manage daily operations and upkeep of mechanical and electrical systems within datacenters.
- Enhance Critical Environment (CE) availability to optimize operational efficiency.
- Decrease occurrence of high-impact and human-error incidents within CE environments annually.
- Implement initiatives focused on reducing costs and improving energy efficiency.
- Ensure consistent monitoring and reporting of power, temperature, relative humidity, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with Engineering Groups and business partners.
- Collaborate regionally and globally to share best practices and standardize operations across the datacenter portfolio.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent plus at least 5 years of experience in mission-critical service management, which may include IT services, manufacturing, warehouse, retail, military, or critical environment infrastructure operations.
- At least 3 years of experience managing diverse technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 6 years managing large-scale complex projects or programs within enterprise environments.
- 6+ years experience in Critical Environment infrastructures such as UPS, Generators, and AHUs.
- 6+ years experience managing physical IT infrastructures including servers, SANs, networking, capacity planning, datacenter racks, enclosures, and structured cabling.
- Proven experience managing budgets exceeding $1 million.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Telecommunications, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or closely related field.
- 5+ years leading diverse, technical global or virtual teams.
- Relevant certifications such as ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network (CCNA), ITIL v3 Foundation, Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF), Leadership Development, PMP, or CDCP.
- Technical college or bachelor’s degree credentials in mechanical or electrical engineering/services.
- Experience executing large-scale Critical Environment projects.
- Familiarity with IT infrastructure operations including servers, storage area networks, and networking.
Additional Conditions
- Position requires passing a Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hiring and biennially thereafter.
- Must verify Australian Citizenship using a valid Australian passport to fulfill federal government security mandates.
- May require NV1/2 or PV clearance via Australian Government Security Vetting Agency assessments.
